About Us
WE ACT to Vote’s mission is to seek a more sustainable future for our community by connecting the fight for environmental justice with civic participation. Community voices are critical in shaping policies to address inequities by creating change through voting, running for office, and lobbying to achieve a more just, equitable, and healthier environment in Northern Manhattan.
Our Purpose
It has become increasingly clear that relying on the politicians in office is no longer sufficient to advance environmental and climate justice initiatives. We also need to have a voice in who gets elected to these positions, to ensure that they are willing to take action on these issues.
That is why we have launched WE ACT to Vote, an Independent Expenditure Committee that builds and leverages political power in our fight to achieve environmental and climate justice for communities in Northern Manhattan.
What is an Independent Expenditure Committee?
An Independent Expenditure Committee allows us to make expenditures – spend money – to advocate for the election of a candidate. These expenditures are not subject to any limitations in terms of the amount we spend, which gives us greater latitude when making endorsements.
WE ACT to Vote is affiliated with WE ACT 4 Change Inc., a 501(c)(4) nonprofit founded in 2020 and WE ACT for Environmental Justice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1988.
